                     2010-2011 AZASCD Executive Board Elections       

AZ ASCD elections for the 2010-2011 Board of Directors are underway with voting officially closing at 5 p.m. on March 16, 2010. 

If you are a member of AZ ASCD, you have voting rights and are encouraged to cast your vote.  To do so, open the attached candidate bios and ballot.  The ballot, once completed, should be sent via email to Alice Wells, the Executive Director, at executivedirector@azascd.org or mailed to AZ ASCD Elections at P.O. Box 38633, Phoenix, AZ 85069.  All ballots must be received by 5 p.m. on March 16, 2010 to be counted.  On the ballot, the voting members name is needed to verify membership.

Also, if you are interested in being a part of the Board of Directors, applications for Members-at-Large are being accepted at the same addresses as ballots.

President-elect-Katherine Wanslee

·         ASCD Experience:  Member of ASCD and AZ ASCD-    Secretary  2009-2010

·         Professional Experience:  Behavior Consultant for Deer Valley Unified School District; Adjunct Faculty, Northern AZ University; Workshop presenter throughout AZ on positive behavior intervention supports

·         Skills and qualifications for this office:  I have not only served on the AZ ASCD Executive Board but have also been a presenter in the 2009 Fall Professional Development Series on Positive Behavior Supports in the Classroom.  In addition, I have done similar workshops for a number of school districts throughout the state and was a key author in conjunction with Human Resources in DVUSD of the Behavior Consultant Evaluation Tool.

Vice-President-Dr. Carol Farabee
 

·         ASCD Experience – Member of ASCD and AZ ASCD – Member-at-Large 2008-2010

·         Professional Experience:  Professor – Western International University

·         Skills and qualifications for this office:  I am the Faculty Advisor for 3 honor societies at Western International University (WIU), on national as well as state organization’s executive boards and also committees for business, education and communication. I have chaired the committees for the charter of two honor societies at WIU (Upsilon Pi Epsilon and Golden Key). Key player in the development of the Business Partnership Advisory Committee being formed by ACTEaz. A driving force in the creation of the Honors College at WIU. Wrote the policies and procedures and helped to set the guidelines for enrollment. Presented diagram, outline of a student communication web site for WIU and they adopted its use for their new MyWIU portal.  I feel that I would be a good candidate for Vice President. I am interested in education and it may start with Kindergarten but it does not end at 12th grade. 12th grade starts a whole new phase of living, education and career opportunities that we are not strong in developing for our students.

Secretary-Dr. Paul Stanton

  • AZ ASCD Experience:  2009-2010 – Serving on the board of directors as Immediate Past President; 2007-2009 – President, AZ ASCD;

  • Professional Experience: Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services for the Liberty School District, a rural district in the west valley; principal, assistant principal and teacher in the Deer Valley Unified District; teacher in the Alhambra Elementary District. 

  • Skills and Qualifications for this Office:  I am currently the Secretary/Treasurer for the Educational Services Division of the Arizona School Administrators (ASA) and the Secretary for the Arizona Assessment Coalition (AZAC).

Treasurer-Sara Marcum

  • AZ ASCD Experience:  Treasurer AZ ASCD 2009-2010

  • Professional Experience:  Interim Director of Student Services – Phoenix Elementary School District; Resource Specialist, Phoenix Elementary School District.

  • Skills and qualifications for this office:   Presently I am serving in the office of Treasurer for AZ ASCD.  I have a working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Quick Books (bookkeeping software).  In addition, I have been a school administrator for over 10 years which includes working with all school budgets.

AZ ASCD is also asking for those interested in participating on the Board of Directors as Members-at-large to complete an application of interest for this position. The Board of Directors may have up to, but not more than, six members-at-large each year. The term for this position is two years. These positions are appointed.
